Gregorius Docilis had been a faithful priest in the Isle of the Britons many moons. Known for his sheepish, yet kindly, disposition, the monk had earned the title "Docilis"--docile--early on from his brothers in the abbey. Though not ambitious or clever, Gregorius had earned respect as a perceptive soul, faithfully attending to his community's needs. Adopting his nickname, the people added the cognomen pastor, shepherd, which slowly became Gregorius' common name among the cantref: the Docile Shepherd. His path in the Lord seemed without blemish or dazzling merit until the arrival of Pelagius, whom the kindly elder befriended despite his audacious claims against Christ and Adam.
The brother found not a little humor in this man's beliefs and sought to exemplify patience and love in the hope of gently correcting Pelagius in his errant ways. However, news of the younger man's views reached the heart of Rome and the Church.
