The Wandering Men have just returned from their annual Writers' Retreat and let me tell you: our fires are stoked and ready to blaze! We were blessed with three days ans two nights in a beautiful chalet in Lake Guntersville, Alabama; cold but glorious weather; more food than we could eat; and excellent friends and writing companions to share it with!
Continue for all the details...
We all arrived on Friday evening and soon had a roaring fire going in the fireplace to stave off the evening's chill and piping hot food out of the oven; laughter and tale-telling soon followed and before we knew what had happened, the night had groan old and wan on us. We slipped off to our beds, contemplating the strange angles and non-Eucledian geometry of the chalet. Some of us rested peacefully, while others kept one eye open 'til dawn; fearing the arrival of some uninvited Old Ones or the stirring from the lake of Cthulhu itself!
Saturday morning we awoke bright and early and set to work; our goal was to leave the retreat refreshed, replenished and with the sequel to Skein of Shadows fully outlined and scened; as well as for writing assignments to be made! All day and all evening long we labored, pausing only for brief food breaks and one extended day hike through the frigid, but still picturesque, mountains of northeastern Alabama...
Needless to say, we achieved all of our goals and then some. We did, in fact, fully outline and define all of the needed scenes for "BOOK II", the as-yet-nameless sequel to Skein. We did, in fact, depart the lovely mountains we all known and love so well with a refreshed mind, spirit and body. However, I think we also gained a deeper appreciation for our friendships and for one antother; and a deeper appreciation for the love of our craft: writing.
Oh! And, we succeeded in keeping Nathan from being eaten by whatever was in the EMPTY SPACE THAT SHALL NOT BE OPENED...
